I Just Got Engaged, What's Next?

Valentine's Day was this past weekend and a lot of people got engaged! Congratulations on joining the Engaged club! If you are new to the club, you are probably asking "What's next?" You are also probably Googling or Pinning everything wedding related on Pinterest to build your wedding mood board. To make this easier, we have created a mini checklist that will assist you with starting your wedding planning.

Watch Movies or Shows for Inspiration

Have you ever watched a movie and you can totally relate to it? Or draw some type of inspiration from it? Watching movies related to weddings can help you learn a thing or two during your wedding planning process. As a wedding planner, I have watched many types of movies related to weddings. As you can guess, romance is my all time favorite type of movie to watch. The below are romantic movies I highly recommend on Netflix

  • Love, Wedding, Repeat - I watched this movie last month and I was dying of laughter. The movie stars Olivia Munn and Sam Claflin.

  • The Wedding Party- This is the 1 of 2 part movie. I enjoyed this movie because I love Nigerian weddings and all the laughs that comes with it.

  • The Wedding Party 2: Destination Dubai- This is the 2 of 2 part movie. If you liked the first installment, then you will definitely like this movie as well.

  • The Wedding Planner- Of course, this is an all time favorite for those who love wedding planning.

Create a Wedding Budget

Most newly engaged couple don't set their wedding budget at the beginning of the planning process. Please don't make this mistake because you may end up spending more than you need. Create your budget, but keep an open mind that it may increase or decrease as you are booking your vendors. However, it does help you stay within a certain range.

Hire a Wedding Planner

Research, consult, and hire a wedding planner. This will definitely make your wedding planning process much easier. A wedding planner will help guide you on what needs to be done, which vendors you need to secure, and transition all the planning process to real life. A wedding planner can also assist you with negotiating costs from potential vendors

Start a Mood board

If you have not already started, start now! You will need to have an idea of what you and your fiancé want for your wedding. This way you can communicate your vision better to your planner or decorator. The below list will help you with deciding what to put on your mood board.

  • Color palettes

  • Inspiration pictures

  • Wedding style & theme
